Recently, I’ve been trying to wind down after one very busy year. As many of you know from my October Monthly Moments post, I’ve been working two jobs for the past year. Now that I’m down to one, my main mission is to relax and have some fun. I spent one of my first work-free weekends having the most amazing Girls Day with my friend Danielle, of Danielle Davis Style, at 21c Durham.
If you haven’t heard of 21c, it’s a boutique hotel chain known for having contemporary art displays throughout their locations. With seven hotels in the country, I first heard of the 21c in Durham about a year ago and have been dying to go ever since. I was beyond excited for the visit Danielle and I planned and now, can’t wait to share the amazing day we had. Here are the highlights of our Girls Day at 21c Durham!
Danielle and I spent the morning walking through the hotel’s art exhibits. The pieces included sculptures, paintings, installations and digital art. I’ve always had an appreciation for art and the culture of 21c was very inspiring to me. One of my favorite pieces was an american flag composed of plastic army men. I also loved that the guest room floors are adorned with works of art from triangle-based artists. If you’re local, I highly encourage you to visit the museum. It’s open 365 days a year, free of charge!
Of course, Danielle and I wanted to dress up a little for our Girls Day. I wore this gorgeous floral maxi dress from Love Winnie James (c/o). I’m 5’2, so it’s always a really good day when I find a maxi that I’m not tripping over. I also love this style for Fall/Winter. The long sleeves and dark coloring make it very seasonally appropriate. I have a feeling it will be one of my go-to’s throughout the holiday season as well.
After exploring the art exhibits, we had lunch at Counting House Restaurant, located within 21c Durham. To say that the food was to-die-for would actually be an understatement. It was truly one of the best meals that I’ve had in a long time and I can’t wait to go back.
For starters, we ordered sweet potato chips and deviled eggs. It took a lot of will power to not fill up on appetizers alone, but I somehow saved room for my entree. I had the roasted portabello galette, which was one of the highlights of my day. It was absolutely delicious and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since our visit (can you tell I really love food?). At the end of our meal, we shared an array of delectable desserts including chocolate cake with passion fruit, sweet potato crème brulée and carnival apple.
The Bank Vault
Next, we decided to relax a little by having a cocktail in The Bank Vault lounge. I was most excited about visiting The Bank Vault, which did not disappoint! The setting of this secretive lounge, located on the hotel’s bottom floor, replicates a vintage bank vault. The walls are made up of deposit boxes and the floor, tiled with dollar bill graphics. Rap songs, all with the common theme of money, played on repeat to set the tone of the super cool atmosphere. I’m not going to lie, hanging out in 21c Durham’s bank vault made me feel like quite the baller.
Before our day ended, Danielle and I headed out to explore downtown Durham a little. Since I’m from Pittsburgh, I get excited for any chance to walk around a city scene. I bundled up in one of my favorite faux fur vests and this baby doll top from Love Winnie James (c/o). I also wore my new booties, that are super comfortable and literally, go with everything! To be honest, it was pretty nice walking around a city in mid-November without freezing to death (no offense to the Burgh!).
FYI – Danielle and I are giving away my backpack at the end of this post, so be sure to enter!
While walking around downtown Durham, we noticed the gorgeous sunset and decided to enjoy it from our hotel room’s balcony. I could not get over the amazing view we had of downtown Durham. It also served as a pretty great photo op. Danielle even sat on the ledge to get some really cool outfit shots. This scaredy cat stayed on the ground, but did take some pretty good selfies!
After a very fun Girls Day at 21c Durham, I was ready to rest and relax in my Deluxe King room. Our accommodations were fantastic, to say the least. The rooms were clean, spacious and even came with our own fuchsia penguin statue. I honestly had the most amazing time and have since convinced my boyfriend to do a weekend getaway at 21c Durham. I really can’t wait to go to back!
