Courtney Fashionista is turning two and I couldn’t allow this month to pass without a little celebration and reflection. This time of year not only marks the beginning of my blogging journey, but also the new chapter I started after moving to Raleigh.
At the time, I was going through a pretty rough breakup, to say the least. I realized that moving away from the situation would also help me move on from it. Within weeks of this epiphany, I was signing a job offer and making arrangements to live with my Aunt in Raleigh, NC. Picking up and moving 500 miles away was the most crazy, hasty, out of character thing I’ve ever done, and the best decision I’ve ever made (yes, my entire family thought I was insane).
Being in a new town, knowing basically no one and fresh out of surviving an extremely vulnerable situation gave me a strong sense that I could do anything I wanted. Afterall, it’s a lot easier to post a picture of yourself on a carousel wearing faux leather shorts when you have one Facebook friend in a 50 mile radius. Anyway, I did the one thing I’ve always wanted to do but never thought my insecure, tech-illiterate self ever could do; I started a fashion blog.
Instead of thinking about what’s-his-name, I focused on styling outfits and photo shoots. I read more fashion magazines and how-to tutorials about WordPress. I brushed up on my marketing skills and designed a logo. I met other sweet, ambitious bloggers who shared tips on Instagram filters and taking pictures with a Canon. Basically, in these two years, blogging brought me back to life. I finally feel like myself again or better yet, a more improved version of myself.
I once read a quote about how every time you think things are falling apart, you’re actually being redirected toward something better. This blog has become my something better. I can’t thank you enough for following along, reading my posts and leaving such wonderful and positive comments. Here’s to 2 Years and Counting! I can’t wait to see what Year 3 brings. 🙂
